You are Somebody's Expert

I was coaching a friend today through some different business concerns, and I asked her why she doesn’t share more about some of her most popular products. Her response was, “Well, I feel like that information is out there; I feel like everyone already knows it.” However, when we dug a little bit deeper into this thought, we discovered a lie that runs rampant in most of our businesses. We tend to think that there is nothing new under the sun, that we have nothing unique to share, or that our audiences have already heard the same information from someone else. And you know what? The majority of the time that’s not true.

For example, I primarily follow health-focused accounts on Instagram, some that are far crunchier and more “out there” than anything that I share. So, when I put something on my IG story about how Tylenol is terrible for you, I’m always shocked when countless DMs hit my inbox saying, “Oh my gosh, I had no idea!!!” I’m saturated with this kind of information, so I naturally assume that everyone else is, too.

In reality, I am somebody’s only health account follow. I am someone’s expert, and my knowledge or opinion might be revolutionary to them! It’s so easy for me to fall into the trap of believing that everyone has heard about my business offerings and Pure Barre and PlayWilder and all the other things that I do. It feels easy to be “known” on social media by thousands of people who have never even talked to you.

Sharing about your passions isn’t just a way to build a brand voice on social media or to your email list, it is literally your easiest free marketing and your best lead generation.

How many times have you been influenced to do something new because someone that you follow mentioned it consistently? We’re all susceptible, and selling in a way that’s authentic to you will never be a bad idea. What’s one thing you could add to your arsenal today that could drastically change someone’s habits or influence them to shop with you? Don’t count yourself out - you are somebody’s expert, I promise.
